Getting ready for your upcoming window installation? It’s such an exciting step—you’ve chosen your new windows, they’re ordered, and now your home’s fresh new look is just around the corner. There are a few simple things you can do to get ready for the big day.
Let’s walk through the window installation process together so you’ll know exactly what to expect from start to finish.
How to Prepare for Your Upcoming Window Installation
Make Room for the Installers to Work
Move your furniture away from your windows and cover it with a clean sheet or blanket to help protect it from accidental damage. Your contractor will need at least three feet of space on each side of your window to work.
Decrease the Risk of Damaging Fragile Items
Remove all your treasured fragile items that are near your windows or are in the path the contractor will take to get to them. This ensures they won’t break or become harmed during your window installation.
Remove Wall Décor Around Your Windows
Take the artwork down that is in proximity to your windows to keep it from getting damaged.
Trim Shrubs and Bushes Near Your Windows
Your installers will need to access your window openings from the outside, so trim back any shrubs or bushes near window openings.
Remove All Window Treatments
Take down all your window treatments such as blinds and curtains for their protection.
Make Arrangements for Your Children and Pets
Avoiding accidents and injury is of paramount importance, so for the safety of your young children and pets, make sure they are not in the work zone on installation day.
The Window Installation Process Explained
At Lutgen Companies, our skilled craftsmen provide precision window installation by taking every opportunity to go the extra mile in our detailed approach to your upgrade. Here’s what you can expect the day of your installation.
Project Walkthrough
The day of your window renovation, your installation team will arrive, introduce themselves, and walk through your home. The number of windows being replaced, each window’s size, and their location can influence how many days your remodel will take, but most projects are done in a day or two.
Clean and Safe Protocols in Place
To keep your home as clean as possible, and to safeguard your flooring from damage, canvas runners and tarps will be carefully placed throughout your home.
Window Removal
Your current windows will be removed one room at a time, or one section at a time. Your house won’t be left wide open with no windows in it. Working on a section at a time ensures we can take the effort needed to do your window installation properly.
Repairs As Needed
If hidden damage lurks beneath your current windows, it will be uncovered when your windows are removed. Our expert crew will repair any water damage (such as rot, mold, or deterioration) before placing your new windows.
Place New Window
Your new windows will be set in place once needed repairs are complete. Long screws will be inserted into the main vertical sides of your new windows (called jambs). Your new window’s function will be tested, and expanding foam will be applied to seal your window and enhance energy efficiency. Once the foam dries, caulk is applied.
Finishing Touches
A weather seal is put into place on your exterior to protect your home from moisture intrusion. The protective film on your new window pane will be removed, and its glass will be cleaned. Old windows and debris will be removed, and your home will be left in pristine shape.
Final Walkthrough
We’ll do a final walkthrough with you to ensure you are completely satisfied and are comfortable operating your new windows.
